Style Diary: Zac Posen for Target skirt

Ok, so I’ve given up on my grand idea to make a fortune off eBay re-selling what I thought were irresistible brocade dresses.  I learned in fact that they were resistible at least at my 99.99 starting price so I’m returning them back to Target soon.   I did however end up keeping the back-zip pleated black skirt as it was really well made and a totally different silhouette than my other, ehem, 5 black skirts haha.

Thankfully, the skirts weren’t as short on me as they were on the model in the lookbook.  Here are my latest outfits which all began with the pleated Zac Posen skirt. Other outfit details include a cloister hat by Olive Branch (bought on sale at TJMaxx), Forever 21 tank, studded heels with fuschia lining by Unlisted.com and tote from Juicy Couture.

I love the traveling fashionista print on this Forever 21 sweater tank.  The tank’s racer-back is tied with a ribbon bow too.

I used the same tote and skirt and changed up the top and shoes for the 2nd outfit below.  Can you believe my mom bought me this silly nerd blouse back in high school and I’ve kept it ever since?  I’m actually thinking about tailoring it so that it fits tighter or cutting the sleeves and creating an entirely different look all together.  Have any ideas for me?  I can’t bear to get rid of it since the nerd in me adores the pocket-protector-like notepad and pencil detail.

The white/black platform shoes are by a brand called Vivayou and they’re from Shanghai.

The below outfit features suede shoes by BCBG that I bought on sale as well as a sweater and bow headband from Forever 21.

I bought the flowers at the grocery the other day.  Having them in my bedroom makes me happy 🙂  Does anyone else randomly like to buy flowers for themselves?

Fab Finds – Rain Boots

The joy of putting together an outfit that expresses who one is and how one feels at the moment can be deeply satisfying to us fashionistas.   If you’re reading this blog, I’m sure you can relate to the mini-epiphanies I’ve experienced that result from simply matching disparate wardrobe pieces and accessorizing in a previously untried way.  Have you had those Einstein moments where for a silly second you can’t deny your own brilliance in styling? I confess, it gives me a high, a cheap one at that I know, but so what if it can convert what should be a mundane day of errands into something a bit more special?

Some days however, dressing up isn’t exhilarating OR liberating OR identity defining.  Some days you face a wardrobe crisis and you never know when it will hit.  The challenge I faced all week was the non-stop NY rain.  It’s hard to feel fabulous when you know your hair is going to fall flat or turn frizzy.  And it’s hard to have fun with your outfit choices when thoughts of what to wear are dominated by restricting priorities like figuring out what will keep you from feeling cold, wet and clammy.

Luckily, there are fashionable rain boots of all styles, colors and price points to keep us warm.  This week, my eyes have been on the lookout for the best in wellies. From shopping down 5th Ave. to shopping online, here are my fab finds!

Henri Bendel offers these stripe-lined, rubber wellies for $88.  They used to offer brown and white as their only two colors but now they offer hot pink, yellow, red and black.  Which ones would you get?  Aren’t they super cute as well as being affordable?

If you like red boots, check out these Hunter Jimmy Choos!  I love the leopard lining.

Juicy makes a cute printed Wellie for $110 that would look great with a khaki trench.

I’m a sucker for Chanel – anything so my heart pumped a little faster when I spotted these yesterday at Saks. A tougher Chanel boot shown below will cost you $365 and would look great contrasted with a girly or frilly dress.

Here’s a Chanel-like quilted boot by Marc Jacobs($285) that is great if you want a little heel.  I’d wear the black ones with my St. John’s black patent leather tote.

For the Gucci girl there are these modern takes on the wellies that look super comfortable.

These Fendi boots would go great  with my tote bag.  lust!

And of course, who can forget Burberry when talking about anything to do with rain gear? The below accessorized versions are my favorites and are a refreshing change from their usual plaid.

$395In my next post, I’ll show you a couple of the rainy day outfits that I finally settled on .  Did any of you face wardrobe and styling challenges this past week?
