Pig Cafe- 3 Things That Will Surprise You

Mini Pig Cafe

One of the reasons Japan stands out to me as such a fun destination for families is all the cute and quirky destinations you can check out for family fun! You can read this post for my top picks on the 5 wackiest things you can do with your family while in Tokyo. This post is a continuation on that travel topic and is all about the mini pig cafes you can find in Tokyo.

Mini pig cafe you ask? Yes! It sounded like a once in a lifetime experience so of course it ended up on my Tokyo bucket list. 😆

Here are the 3 surprising things we did not expect:

1). It’s NOT a pig pen.

It’s actually a clean inviting place where you take your shoes off at check-in, slide into slippers, and where you are asked to sanitize your hands before and after the experience. I know, I too thought it was a strange request to ask us to sanitize ourselves before handling pigs haha. Once you sit down in what looks more like a playroom instead of a pig pen, they will give you a soft blanket for your lap. This helps protect your clothes and also invites the pigs to sit with you.

2). Pigs will want to snuggle with you!

I found this the most surprising part of the experience. I assumed pigs would have no interest in human companionship and that I’d spend most of my time there wistfully trying to catch and pet one. But the moment I sat down, I had a few curious pigs sniff me, walk around to all of us and pick one of us to lay with. OMG pigs are so friendly and affectionate!! They LOVE attention! You’ll never have felt so wanted in your life!

Surprisingly, there was no warning up period. (Unlike bunnies, they immediately trusted us strangers). Some even fought to be on our laps. At one time, I had up to 5 little pigs on me and felt as thought I was HOGging them all. In fact, we all had multiple piggies all want to be our best friend. This resulted in tons of giggles from my 10-year old and some cramped legs for my husband who for some reason only had the larger black pigs interested in him.

3). Pigs are smart and make great pets!

The friendly staff answered all my questions about their micro pigs and I learned so much! Who knew for instance, pigs can live 10-15 years? AND they’re stunningly smarter than cats and dogs and have done better at cognitive tests than the average 3 year old human child. They’re also all potty trained just like our bunny is. They go in litter trays. This all left me wondering why pigs get such a bad rap. They’re not filthy animals that are only good for ham, pork, sausage and bacon after all! 😆

This unforgettable experience was so much fun and had me obsessed with finding out more about pig ownership. I now know why celebrities like Megan Fox, Paris Hilton, George Clooney and David Beckham owned pigs as pets! BTW, this cafe allows for adoptions in case you fall in love and just have to take one home!! Be careful, cuz these cuddly cuties will totally steal your heart. They may even have you rethinking your willingness to eat pork, bacon, sausage and ham. My daughter has already given all of it up after this visit… Let’s see how long this lasts.

TIPS

*RSVP! Time slots fill up quickly and while walk-ins are welcome you don’t want to be disappointed at the door only to find that private, more pricier options are the only spaces left. Many have been turned away because of filled up spots and lack of space.

*Be on time because every minute you miss is simply lost. The Harajuku location is on a tiny side street right off the one with the Snoopy cafe and can be a bit hard to find. So make sure to allot extra time plus MPig asks you arrive 10 minutes before to review the rules, and get set up with their locker and slippers anyways.

*Private sessions are available where you get 1 pig per person (provided at random..you don’t get to choose). Mpig has been criticized for this since in the main room you could easily have 5 pigs on you at any one time. However, in your semi-enclosed private space, you’ll get to learn how to pick up the pigs. (That’s not allowed in the main area).

The Latest and Greatest Travel Products You Need But Probably Don’t Already Have

11 of The Best Travel Products You’ll Need To Get in 2024

Traveling to new places is fun but sometimes the getting there is challenging. After traveling to 28 countries and countless U.S. cities with our now 10 year old daughter we’ve learned a thing or two about how to make travel more comfortable and packing more space efficient.  And after trying and testing out all the latest travel gadgets and sometimes useless travel products out there nowadays, I can confidently share with you only the best that have made it past the rugged travels, the test of time and comparison shopping. And I’m not talking about my favorite little candle, scarf or blanket here.  I’m talking about the latest advances, upgrades and inventions that you probably don’t already have! 1).  Rydir wraps

Don’t you hate when you’re taking a turn with your rolling suitcase and the bag you had on top falls over spilling all its contents?  To prevent this, and to prevent the clumsiness of having to carry all the extra things you want to carry onto your plane (but that won’t fit into your carryon suitcase), you might think buying that clip, the cup holder, or baggage straps are a good idea.  But those only specialize in holding one thing.  The Rydir wrap will hold it ALL and more.  travel hacks, travel products, best travel productsIt holds weirdly shaped items like the Vietnamese cone-shaped hat I bought while traveling Vietnam (pictured above for instance).  And it will keep your hands free of having to carry the blanket,  the neck pillow, and the water bottle at the airport.  It’s such a simple invention with its stretchy tube top-like design. But it brilliantly holds so much while also packing away into a weightless, bundle when you don’t need it.  AND did you realize, it doubles as cover for your precious designer bags?  I always found it so cringy that you end up having to stowe away your bag under the seat.  This will protect your purse.  Simply wash the Rydir afterwards.

2).  Universal power adaptor

Back in the day, you might have had to purchase and collect separate adaptors based on whatever country you were planning to visit.  No need to stock a full suite of power adaptors anymore.  Buy this all-in-one and just store it in your suitcase and you’ll be ready to safely charge up at every destination.  Every frequent flier needs this!  Here is the best-selling, highest rated one that covers more than 200 countries.  It’s on sale now here.

3).  Upgraded packing cubes

Upgrade your old packing cubes to the latest compression packing cubes with hanging hooks and you’ll never look back!  Pack more in with the zipper compression and layering system. Then at the hotel, forget individually transfer items into the closet or cabinets.  Just pull this out and hang.  Instantly, you’re unpacked AND organized. My husband showed me the joys of this remote and magical USB stick so I have to give him credit for this fab find.  You know how when you travel, you have to either sift through all the shows in another language, or if you’re in your country, you miss getting to skip through all the commercials and having access to your favorite streaming services?  No need to splurge on expensive on-demand movies. No need to pine over your missed favorite shows. This small USB-powered device gives you access to all your favorite pre-recorded shows and movies wherever you are in the world. 5).  Digital luggage scale

Do you still have the standard, U-shaped neck pillow?  Then you know the frustration of it not offering enough support to keep your head neck and chin in place and/or the discomfort of the back of the neck being so full that you end up having your head pushed forward because of the position of the airplane seat.  Time for an upgrade!  This Bcozzy is a total game changer for stability, versatility, and comfort.  I attribute my full night’s sleep to it in fact during my last international trip!  Trust me and the almost 29,000 fans who’ve reviewed it positively!  It’s also machine washable, and it comes in variety of sizes and colors too. I’m getting an extra one in a kids’ size cuz it’s perfect for car rides too! Shop here. TRAVEL HACKS, TRAVEL PRODUCTS, AIRPLANE PILLOW
