Breakfast At Tiffany’s – A Blue Box Cafe Review

BREAKFAST AT TIFFANY’S

Did you know that you could have breakfast at Tiffany’s now?  Yes!  It’s true!  Holly Golightly wannabes no longer have to settle for a simple croissant and coffee and be left longingly looking into the store.  Now you can walk right into the Blue Box Cafe located on 727 5th Avenue in New York City and sit down for the most fabulous breakfast, lunch or afternoon tea!  It opened up in November, 2017 and I finally scored a reservation.  Keep reading because I have all the details and pictures to share with you!

It is just as fabulous as it sounds!  The newly renovated 4th floor is where you’ll find the jewel of a restaurant. And along the way you’ll discover Tiffany blue suitcases, globes, baby items and even a bicycle!  Make sure to walk around and discover cute Instagramable moments like this sofa!

DECOR

Like Tiffany Blue?  I hope so because you will be completely enveloped in it.  “Both the café and redesign of the Home & Accessories floor reflect a modern luxury experience,” said Reed Krakoff, Tiffany’s chief artistic officer, in a statement. “The space is experimental and experiential — a window into the new Tiffany.”

THE FOOD

Honestly, I could have just sat there taking in the true blue sights and been stupidly happy but bonus, I got to eat delicious food too lol!  Breakfast is $29.  Lunch is $39.  Afternoon tea is $49.  My friend and I ordered one breakfast item (the avocado toast), and the afternoon tea set.  We found that that was more than enough food for the two of us to share.  Note to the moms, there is no kids’ menu. And all patrons taking a seat must order separately (This is why I decided against bringing my 6 year old -there was no way she’d be able to finish a full adult sized entree).  Click here to see the full menu.

OVERALL

This is a great spot to celebrate a special occasion (they even have cake in the shape of a Tiffany’s box!!), or simply come for an Instagramable and very memorable meal like we did.   Thanks Melissa for coming with me on such a rainy Manhattan morning!

We both highly recommend this as a fabulous, girly meetup.  Because 1. Tiffany’s so gorgeously presented the delicious food.  And 2. we found the price to be fair given the atmosphere and 5th Avenue setting.

TIPS

It’s a tiny restaurant and you must make reservations (no walk-ins as they are always booked).  Check for openings every morning at 9am to book your reservation in advance.  It may take a while but I hear that new open bookings come up every morning for 30 days in advance.  So keep checking and persistence will pay off.  Let me know how you like it when you do!

Afternoon Tea in Chicago’s Peninsula Hotel – Everything You Want To Know

Time for a tea party!

My minifashionista loves a good tea party.  Whether it is at home with princess playmates and pretend tea set, or to celebrate a birthday, or in London (her first fancy afternoon tea), she (and I) are always up for a little afternoon tea.  So when daddy proposed the grand and impromptu idea to enjoy a little afternoon tea during our stay at the Peninsula Hotel in Chicago this summer, we excitedly agreed to it!

The setting

We just love the beautiful restaurant, located in the lobby of the hotel with its dramatic floral arrangements, 20 ft. high, floor-to-ceiling windows, and elegant atmosphere.  It’s certainly the perfect place to celebrate a special occasion or just to celebrate the everyday like we did!

The menu

The afternoon tea included a delectable sampling of savory and sweet bites.

For the adults, sandwiches included the traditional variety: salmon and cream cheese, egg salad, tuna fish, and cucumber.  The middle tray included 2 scones and the top tray featured all the pretty desserts and treats.  As you can imagine, it took all my willpower not to start there first!

For kids

Everything was so perfectly pretty that the tiered tray just begged for a picture.  Juliet enjoyed ordering from the kid’s menu which also featured a decadent afternoon tea with treats including: gummy bears, jello shot, and her own collection of bite-sized pastries and chocolates prepared by the Peninsula’s world-renowned culinary team.  We should note that children’s, vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free afternoon tea menus are also available upon request.

French fries, baby burger, a ham and cheese sandwich shaped like a teddy bear, and a peanut butter and jelly sandwich slice rounded out her plate. When she accidentally dropped her PB&J, the waiter jumped to offer her another one.  What service!  But he didn’t just come back with her replacement sandwich.

The surprises

He returned to also magically place the Peninsula bear on her seat without her realizing.  She discovered it moments after he left and was left curious as to how he got there.  When she asked the waiter about it, he playfully guessed that the bear must’ve jumped up onto her chair when she wasn’t looking, hoping to find a new home!  Juliet was ecstatic to find a new friend to enjoy tea with and she quickly introduced him to her pet bunny.  Together we all had a grand old time! The tea selection is vast and impressive ranging from oolong, herbal, green, black teas.  And we found that ordering one afternoon tea set, and one children’s set was enough for the 3 of us to enjoy as a family.

And what made the afternoon tea even more memorable was the live music that we were treated to!  chicago peninsula hotel tea, chicago peninsula hotel, afternoon tea at peninsula hotel

Location and times

The Peninsula Hotel in Chicago is located at 108 E. Superior St. between N. Michigan Avenue and Rush St.  And afternoon tea times are:
2:30 pm, 4:30 pm (Mon – Sat) and 3:30 pm – 5:00 pm (Sun). $65 for the adult tea order and $39 for the kid’s portion.

We highly recommend this AND the chocolate buffet served Friday and Sundays (7pm-10:30pm)
