Flapper Fashion For Halloween

Wondering what you’ll be this Halloween?  Here are some fabulous flapper fashions to inspire you in case you are into vintage looks.  With the upcoming Great Gatsby movie on its way, you’ll also be setting future trends, for sure!

Kim Kardashian rocked this look in 2008.  What do you think of her Halloween outfit?

What’s so great about this Halloween outfit pick is that you don’t have to rely on those one-size-fits-all, cheesy, pre-packaged options. You can go dress hunting in regular stores simply by looking for drop waist dresses or ornate 20s style sequined pieces that you can likely wear again. Here are some 20’s flapper style dresses straight off the runway as proof!

If you’re not into the idea of investing in a designer dress for Halloween though, keep in mind that you can probably convert something from your current closet into a flapper outfit with a few key accessories.  Think gloves, fur boas and shawls, strings of pearls, t-strap heels and feathers in the hair.

For  my friend’s Flapper-themed bachelorette party, this is exactly what we did.  My friend and I actually just DIY-ed our own headpieces by choosing a ribbon (you can choose a more elaborate trim too) and then bobby pinning a feather to it in our hair.

Here are some of the party pics!

Here’s a close-up of my outfit details (Sue Wong dress, Aldo shoes).

So do you know how you’re dressing, come October 31st?

5 of the Best Fashion Books for Your Minifashionista

Do you love fashion and are you rearing a budding minifashionista? If so, I know you’ll both enjoy this round-up of our favorite fashion books for girls ages 3-7 too!

  1.  S is for Style by Tina and Anthony Coorey

This chic hardcover book is my new go to present for any new fashion momma and minifashionista!  So beautiful, it is worthy of a coffee table presence! And I’m talking about the living room – not just your kid’s room!  And there truly is no more fashionable way to introduce the alphabet! (Think A for Anna Wintour, C for Cartier).  For a child like mine who was made to dress as Anna Wintour at age 2 for her Halloween costume, and for a child who has been attending fashion shows with me since she was a baby, this book made perfect sense lol!  I almost wanted to chant the rhyming pages to my husband cuz Lord knows he knows less about fashion icons, fashion brands and fashion week than Juliet does.   Heck, she’s even met some of these people in the book – which reminds me I need to print that picture of Rachel Zoe carrying Juliet out and add it into this book!
  2. From Farm to Big City  by KahriAnne Kerr

I SO relate to this book coming from a small town myself and having grown up watching the fashion shows on TV always yearning for a bigger more cosmopolitan city.  So it is with great nostalgia that I share reading sessions with this book in hand because it sparks conversations of how life in the NYC is so different than much of the rest of the world.  And it also brings us back to the time when we met the author of this book, the creator of these fashion icon cookies and other plush items, KahriAnne Kerr.  What an honor it was for Juliet to meet a real fashion designer (her future dream job haha)
  3. What Would Fashion Look Like If They Included All of Us  – by Universal Standard
This is a very progressive and very much needed, book that promotes the concept of inclusion.  I think this should be in the bookshelves of every budding fashionista because it shows that beauty comes in all colors, shapes and sizes.  What a great message!  For just $21 including s&h, you can gift this hardcover book – a welcomed addition to any bookshelf I’m sure.  But you can also download a free digital copy from their website!!  How amazing is that!??
  4. Shoe La La by Karen Beaumont and LeUyen Pham
shoe la la, toddler books, best fashion books for kidsThis was gifted to us by a fellow fashionista and it became Juliet’s favorite book as a toddler.  With its catchy rhymes and glittery pages, I could see why!  My daughter even memorized the words to the entire book at age 3 and there are actually a lot of pages jam-packed into this one board book!  So you can imagine how many times she had asked to have me read this to her haha
  5. Juno Valentine and the Fantastic Fashion Adventure by Eva Chen
juno valentine, best fashion books for kidsSee what stepping into the shoes of famous women might be like. We love this book because not only does it feature fun fashions and the most amazing shoe collection, but it takes you through an educational journey highlighting famous, fearless, powerful women in history.  (Think Serena Williams, Frida Kahlo, Cleopatra and Lady Gaga!)  It is all about girl power and who doesn’t love that!
